The Difference Between Active Safety Features and Passive Safety Features

2019 Pilot Driving

Your Honda, whether you’re behind the wheel of an Accord, CR-V, or Passport, includes active safety features, such as the Honda Sensing package, and passive safety features, such as seatbelts. Active safety features are always on – hence, “active” – and so they are always working to mitigate the risk of collision around Seattle. Passive safety features only work when called upon. If passive safety features are not actually in use, they’re not working. Another helpful example of passive safety features is fog lights.

New Car Safety Features

Most safety features on new vehicles combine passive and active safety technologies. For instance, the Honda Sensing® package is an active safety feature that is constantly using features to keep collisions at bay, while features like seat belt pre-tensioners are passive features that work in the unlikely event you slam on the brakes. By combining all these features, Redmond drives are just that safer.
