TPMS Sensors

What does TPMS mean? Well, TPMS is a type of vehicle technology, and TPMS is an acronym for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This system is designed with tire pressure sensors, which track the air pressure of your tire. It can sense if one or more of your vehicle’s tires aren’t at the proper air pressure and light up the TPMS dashboard warning light. Most new vehicles are equipped with TPMS, this makes it easy to prevent tire failure and maintain proper vehicle handling when driving around Redmond and Woodinville.

Features of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The tire pressure monitoring system tracks the pressure levels of your tires and lets you know if they are too low. The dashboard warning light is typically either a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle of it, or it might just be the illuminated letters “TPMS.” You can check your owner’s manual to learn how your vehicle signals you have low tire pressure. Underinflation of your tires can cause issues like:

  • Poor traction
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout

Day-to-day, having your tires properly inflated can protect you from a potential accident. Over time, it helps to prevent premature wear down of your tires and helps optimize fuel economy. The tire pressure monitoring system is a great way to keep an eye on your tire pressure during your Seattle travels without having to get out of the car and perform a manual check.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Proper Tire Inflation

If your tires are either over or under-inflated you can experience a few different issues that we mentioned above, but what about a properly inflated tire? Check out some of the benefits of having proper tire pressure here:

  • Reduce tread movement increasing the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance to provide better vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion which decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning and provides better traction

You can save money and stress by having your tires properly inflated, here are some of the several options you have when it comes to filling up your tires:

  • Many gas stations have tire filling areas separate from the pump station.
  • You can take your vehicle to your favorite service center for full tire service.
  • You can buy a small, portable air compressor to keep at home or in your vehicle.
  • If you need a little more air in your tires quickly, you can even use a bike pump!
