How to Be Fuel Efficient When Driving

2020 Honda Accord Touring

If you are similar to Redmond drivers, you may be looking for the best way to conserve fuel whilst running your errands, adventuring or commuting to work. Many of the new Honda vehicles are incredibly fuel-efficient with the updated designs, energy efficient engines, and hybrid options. However, the best way to maximize your fuel efficiency is to also form fuel efficient driving habits into practice. Keep reading on to explore a few of the tips we have put together on how to be fuel-efficient as you go about your daily drives.

5 Tips for Conscious Driving for Fuel Efficiency

If you are driving to work in Woodinville or riding the highways for your weekend vacation, you can also implement the following tips all the time to get the best out of your car’s fuel tank:

  1. Soft Acceleration: If you put the pedal to the metal, you are wasting gas, so be sure to press the gas pedal gently. This will minimize the fuel you use. If you accelerate smoothly and take five seconds to bring your vehicle up to 10 mph from a standstill you can save on gas.
  2. Be Sure to Plan Ahead for Traffic: If you are sitting in stop-and-go traffic, it is extremely inefficient for your fuel use, and it can also put a ton of mechanical stress on your drivetrain. If you avoid rush hour by leaving 15 minutes early, and attempt to find a shortcut so you can reach your destination without the hassle.
  3. Avoid High Speed Driving: When you are driving at a higher speed, you use more fuel. Achieving the best possible fuel economy on the highway can be done by maintaining a speed between 55 and 65 mph (whilst following the speed limit of course).
  4. Slow Coast to a Stop: When you’re braking, keep your eyes on the road. Instead of braking hard, try to coast as close to a stop as possible. Simply, take your foot off the gas pedal and slowly let your car roll to a stop. How can you save fuel while driving on hills? Reduce your speed as you are going uphill, and then use your car’s forward momentum to coast downhill.
  5. Limit Your Air Conditioning Use: When you use the air conditioning system you end up increasing your car’s fuel usage by up to 20%! When you are turning the air conditioning on, turn on the recirculate function instead of leaving it blasting endlessly.
