Honda and GM Partnership: What Does It Mean?

GM and Honda Logos

If you’re ready to make the transition to a more fuel-efficient ride for your Redmond and Woodinville travels, then you may be interested in looking at electric cars from Honda. While electric models carried a slightly higher price point as they entered the market due to the powerful Honda EV battery, a new joint partnership between Honda and General Motors aims to deliver more affordable electric vehicles to a wider range of drivers, so the change doesn’t have to impact your wallet. Plus, this partnership will work on cutting tailpipe emissions and converting as many vehicles as possible to emission-free electric power. Learn more about the new Honda and GM partnership, then explore our inventory for your next electric car at Honda of Kirkland today!

Honda and GM Partnership Part 1: Honda Pologue Rollout

Kicking off this Honda and GM’s partnership is the release of the anticipated 2024 Honda Prologue, which will be the first fully-electric Honda SUV sold and built in the United States using an innovative electric platform produced by General Motors. This is also in conjunction with Acura, which is the luxury car branch of Honda, that will even be getting its own electric SUV called the Acura ADX. The Honda Prologue is expected to be released in late 2023, right in time for the next phases of the Honda and GM deal to begin, which will see a new line of jointly-developed electric crossovers around 2027 to meet goals of having a 100% emission-free lineup around the world by 2040.

Honda and GM Partnership Part 2: GM/Honda EV Battery

Along with designing newer eclectic models comes the task of developing a Honda EV battery that won’t impact costs while maintaining a strong dedication to delivering a performance that does right by you and the environment. This is why Honda and GM are working on all-new battery technology made from materials like silicon and lithium that will be ready in time for the all-new fleet of affordable electric vehicles in 2027. These innovations won’t just be limited to the Honda brand as it will extend to others under GM such as Acura, GMC, Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac.
