How to Install a Car Battery: Step-by-Step Guide 

Now that you’ve gathered the proper tools, it’s time to get started on installing a new car battery. The first and most important thing to do is park the car and turn off the engine. Then, pop the hood, locate the battery, and follow these steps: 

1. Use your wrench to loosen the nut that secures the black cable (the negative cable) to the battery.
2. Twist and pull the cable off once the nut has been loosened enough. If you try to loosen it and you find that it’s stuck, gently loosen it more with the wrench until it gives, or try some penetrating oil.
3. Repeat the steps above with the red battery cable from the positive terminal.
