How to Install a Car Battery: Step-by-Step Guide 

Now that you’ve gathered the proper tools, it’s time to get started on installing a new car battery. The first and most important thing to do is park the car and turn off the engine. Then, pop the hood, locate the battery, and follow these steps: 

1. Use your wrench to loosen the nut that secures the black cable (the negative cable) to the battery.
2. Twist and pull the cable off once the nut has been loosened enough. If you try to loosen it and you find that it’s stuck, gently loosen it more with the wrench until it gives, or try some penetrating oil.
3. Repeat the steps above with the red battery cable from the positive terminal. 
4. Locate the battery hold-down clamp, which keeps the battery from shifting under the hood. Carefully loosen it and then remove it.

6. Remove any corrosion that may have built up in the battery tray or the hold-down clamp using a battery cleaning product or a mix of baking soda and water.

8. Take the new battery and place it carefully in the battery tray. secure it by tightening the hold-down clamp.
9. Use an anti-corrosion solution to spray down the positive and negative terminals before you connect it. This is an important way to protect the battery and extend its life.
10. Reattach the battery cables to the battery terminals, connecting the red cable first and the black cable second.
11. Try to move the battery to make sure it’s securely fastened. if it doesn’t move at all you’re good to go!
12. Start the engine to see if the battery is working properly. if everything has gone correctly, the engine should start up with no issues.
