Honda is committed to building vehicles that are designed to keep you safe and secure. No matter if you’re solo or with the entire family on Redmond roads, Honda vehicles are built with a sophisticated safety system few brands can match. One important component is the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS).

The Collision Mitigation Braking System is just one of the many Active Safety features found in the Honda Sensing® suite. Learn more about the Collision Mitigation Braking System and how it can greatly enhance your confidence behind the wheel.

What Is CMBS?

The Collision Mitigation Braking System utilizes a combination of radar sensors and cameras to detect vehicles or obstacles in your path around Woodinville streets. Proactive measures are taken to reduce the risk of a collision via aural and visual alerts. The CMBS can automatically apply brakes if a collision is determined to be unavoidable.

How Does CMBS Work?

How does the Collision Mitigation Braking System work? The process can be explained in three stages:

  • Stage One: If risk of frontal collision with a vehicle or object is detected ahead by the CMBS, visual and audible alerts are signaled.
  • Stage Two: If the likelihood of a vehicle collision increases and no action is taken, the system will begin to apply light braking alongside the aforementioned alerts.
  • Stage Three: At this point, if collision is unavoidable, stronger braking is applied while the alerts still continue. In some cases, the Collision Mitigation Braking System jumps directly to this stage if the system determines the possibility of an accident ahead.

It’s worth noting that the CMBS may not be able to apply total braking to avoid a collision. In addition, the driver needs to remain aware of their surroundings when driving in Seattle, as not all objects can be detected by the system.
